Troubleshoot Issue Importing Worlds and Templates

If you’re experiencing issues importing worlds (.mcworld files) and templates (.mctemplate files), there may be a few difference reasons. This article provides information on what may be causing the issue and how to fix it.

Cause

Solution

For Mac, Minecraft: Education Edition is not enabled as an option to open files with.

Follow these steps to enable Minecraft: Education Edition.

  1. Right-click the file and select File > Open with > Other.
  2. From the drop-down, select Enable: All Applications.
  3. Select Minecraft: Education Edition.
    Result: If you’re importing a world, Minecraft: Education Edition opens the world. If you’re importing a template, the template is added to the templates list and can be used to create a world.

For iPad, the world is in the iCloud > Downloads folder.

World files cannot be imported from the iCloud > Downloads folder. Follow these steps to move the file to a different folder.

  1. On the iPad, move the .mcworld file to On My iPad > Minecraft/EducationEdition (or another folder on the iPad).
  2. Select the .mcworld file > Open with > Minecraft: Education Edition.
