Find Your IP Address
It is helpful to know your IP address when trying to connect to a multiplayer game. This article provides information on how to find your IP address in Minecraft: Education Edition.
Internal vs. external IP address
There are two different types of IP addresses used to connect to a multiplayer game, internal and external. The internal IP address is used by your network’s router to identify your device. Everything on your network has its own unique IP address. If you are connecting to a game that is on a device connected to your local network, then there may be times when you need to know your internal IP address.
The external IP address is the IP address of your router. It is the IP address used by websites and other online services, like Minecraft: Education Edition, to identify your router. If you are connecting to a multiplayer game that is on another network, not your local network, there may be times when you need to know your external IP address
Find your internal IP address
Follow these steps to find your IP address.
- From the Pause menu, select the Multiplayer (
) tab.
- If you are not already hosting, select Start Hosting.
