Minecraft: Education Edition and apps (Classroom Mode, and Code Connection) can be installed on individual PCs manually. This article provides information on how to install Minecraft: Education Edition on PC.
Before you begin
Before installing Minecraft: Education Edition, ensure these prerequisites are met.
- Your PC must meet the system requirements, see System Requirements.
- Users need to have the correct permissions based on the setup and installation method used at your organization.
- If installing the app from the Microsoft Store for Education, all apps must be up to date. Minecraft: Education Edition cannot be installed if there are updates pending for other apps.
Windows desktop version vs. Windows Store version
For Office 365 A3 or A5 Education users, Minecraft: Education Edition is available either as the Windows desktop version or the Windows Store version. Both versions function the same and have the same features. The difference is in how the version is downloaded. The Windows desktop version is downloaded from the Minecraft: Education Edition website. The Windows Store version is downloaded from the Microsoft Store for Education.
The version you choose may depend on your setup. These are the recommended Minecraft: Education Edition versions based on common setups.

Install the Windows desktop version manually
Follow these steps to manually install the Windows desktop version of Minecraft: Education Edition.
1. Go to our download page here and select the download button for Windows.
Result: The installation file begins downloading to your PC.
2. After the installation file finishes downloading, open the installation file and proceed through Minecraft: Education Edition Setup wizard to complete the installation.
Result: After Minecraft: Education Edition finishes installing, Minecraft: Education Edition opens.
Install the Windows Store version manually
Follow these steps to manually install the Windows store version of Minecraft: Education Edition.
1. Go to our download page here and select “download from Windows Store” under the additional platforms section.
Result: If a pop-up asks approval to open the app installer, select Open Installer.
2. From the app installer, ensure Launch when ready is selected and select Install.
Result: After Minecraft: Education Edition finishes installing, Minecraft: Education Edition opens.
Run a silent install
To run a silent installation, you need to download the installer package. Follow these steps to download the installer package and use to install Minecraft: Education Edition.
- Download the Minecraft: Education Edition Installer package.
- In the Files\InstallMinecraft.psl Powershell script change:
- c:\minecraft-install.log so that it logs to the local PC.
- AppendAndExit-Log function to not allow the press any key to exit function.
- In the bat script remove the Pause > nul statement, at the end of the script, and remove the check if we re Administrator.
